With the gathering of the Odia community comes increased devotee presence, mandating a consistent and devoted effort to make sure things run smoothly. That’s where Gyana Nadi and the Odia community come together to make a difference. Through volunteer efforts, such as serving prasad offerings during mealtime, or assisting in pujas by gathering supplies such as coconuts, Gyana Nadi aims to create a difference.
Odia community festivals are a hallmark of gathering, bringing together Odia people of all ages and backgrounds to one cohesive setting to embrace a common link that’s shared. Gyana Nadi capitalizes on this through active participation in community festivals, with an emphasis on the encouragement of youth participation so Odia culture can be passed down through the generations. Our involvement has spanned numerous festivals at both the Sunnyvale and Fremont Hindu Temple, such as Rath Yatra and Ganesh Puja.
We at Gyana Nadi believe that the best way to pick up a language is to simply speak. That’s why all of our conversations and volunteer efforts take place in Odia - be it a simple greeting to someone young or old, we aim to facilitate conversion. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to continue this service in person, which is why we hosted a Zoom video session with members of the Odia community of all ages. Our active speaking session which drew out the voices of everyone in the audience channeled our fundamental goal and allowed for concrete and successful progress.
